Beilstein and Gmelin Databases

Getting Started

  1. Begin search in the CrossFire COMMANDER window.
  2. Select either Beilstein or Gmelin or both databases.
Note: It is possible to search Beilstein and Gmelin simultaneously. If both databases are selected, only structure and text searches are permitted. Predefined Search Forms will not be active because they relate specifically to each database.
  3. Clear previous STRUCTURE or FACT searches if necessary.

Predefined Search Forms

  5. Click on START SEARCH.

Predefined property search form

The query is built using the correct field codes and appears in the SEARCH FIELDS table in the lower right side of the Commander Window. It is possible to use more than one predefined search form to build a Fact Editor query.

All Text

Text Search provides a guided search in either all text fields or bibliographic fields.

  1. Enter one or several keywords into the text box of the SearchAll Text box.
Note: If more than one keyword is entered in the text search field the Commander will run a combined query. The default combination of such phrases is the AND operator but you can overwrite this by entering other operators.
  2. Click on START SEARCH.
  3. Select SEARCH CONTEXT (can select multiple contexts).
  4. Click on START SEARCH.

Fact Editor

For complex searches involving many less common data fields, use the SEARCH FIELDS tab to identify appropriate fields or enter criteria directly in the SEARCH FIELDS TABLE.

Property editor search fields

  1. Click on the SEARCH FIELDS tab.
  2. Type a property name in the SEARCH FIELD NAME IN HIERARCHY search box.
  3. Click on FIND.
  4. Click on FIND again to view additional entries in the hierarchy.
  5. Double-click on the desired field code to copy the code name to the SEARCH FIELDS TABLE.
  6. Select appropriate operator from the RELATION drop-down menu.
  7. Enter data value in FIELD CONTENT cell.
  8. Click on START SEARCH.
